The dampened side blank is placed against the heated form, and flexible metal slats or a silicone blanket press the wood against the form using mechanical clamps, springs, or pneumatic pressure. A temperature controller maintains consistent heat, typically 150 to 175 degrees Celsius. The system bends both sides simultaneously and produces highly repeatable results. ## Use in Lutherie The Fox-style bender streamlines the side-bending process, reducing it from a hands-on skilled operation to a more controlled, mechanical one. After placing the wet sides in the machine and clamping them against the heated form, the luthier waits 15 to 30 minutes for the bend to set, then allows the sides to cool in the form. This produces consistently accurate bends matched perfectly to the body mold.
