Torres is widely regarded as the father of the modern classical guitar, and his bracing innovations established the template that the vast majority of classical guitar builders have followed for over 150 years. His pattern typically consists of seven fan braces with two closing bars, arranged with careful attention to symmetry and balance. ## Process The Torres pattern places seven fan braces radiating from just below the sound hole toward the lower bout. The center brace runs along the guitar's centerline, with three braces fanning out symmetrically on each side. The outermost braces angle toward the widest points of the lower bout. Below the fan tips, two closing bars (also called harmonic bars) run roughly perpendicular to the fan braces, tying the fan together and stiffening the lower portion of the top. These closing bars are positioned in the lower third of the bout, and their exact placement varies among builders.
